	Studio Policy
	WELCOME LESSONS Lessons are given on a weekly basis. 30 minutes or an hour are the typical time frames. Lessons begin in September, with the beginning of school, and end the last week in July. Students will learn the language of music and music theory. They will develop good posture, hand position, keyboard skills, pedaling skills and technique. They will learn to listen for musicality and will study a varied repertoire with emphasis on student involvement in choosing that repertoire. Although I am not currently a member, the Oregon Music Teachers Association syllabus is available for reference. There are performing opportunities in preparing for syllabus evaluations. These evaluations are usually held in April. If you are interested we can pursue this further. PRACTICE COMMITMENT Practice is the most important thing the student can do to achieve success and value from their lessons. Individualized lesson plans will be provided for weekly practice assistance and you may always call my studio with any questions that arise during your weekly practice. I have an answering machine if I am unable to come to the phone. I also have a cell phone that you may leave messages on as well. Please do not wait a week to ask a question! School is every student’s number-one-job. I do request a commitment of at least 30 minutes practice time a day and 15 minutes for the beginning music makers. Each student will be given a music notebook and will be asked to keep track of their practice time each day. *It is necessary for each student to create time in their daily routines for this very important discipline.* PIANO / KEYBOARD It is extremely important to have a piano that is well maintained and in tune. If you have an electronic keyboard it needs to be at least three octaves long. Ear training is an important part of music instruction and is difficult to accomplish with an out-of-tune piano. I can recommend a few Central Oregon tuners. TUITION Studio fees are $15.00/half hour and $30.00/hour. If I am traveling to your home the fees are $17.50/half hour and $35.00/hour. I am flexible and willing to work with you concerning studio fee payment. Payment should be weekly or by the 10th of each month. Recital fees are dependant on participation. All checks should be made payable to Rebecca French. Students will be billed for the total available lesson days each month. Missed lessons, as no-shows, will not be deducted from the monthly statement. If you are sick (or bad driving conditions) we can discuss make-up lessons that will work with everyone’s schedule. Please allow 24 hours for other cancellations or forfeit lesson fee. I will do my best to contact each student within 24 hours if I am sick or there are bad driving conditions. You must allow thirty days termination notice. If you can not give thirty days notice, you will forfeit one full month lesson fees. I will pass on any discounts I receive as a teacher when purchasing music or other music supplies you will need. All supply purchases can be paid at the beginning of each month with the month’s studio fees. RECITAL / PERFORMANCE Students will be asked to participate in recitals when scheduled. If they choose not to participate, I ask that they attend to support their fellow musicians. Recital fees are dependant on participation. ATTENDANCE Students need to arrive for class on time or a few minutes early. Clean hands are preferred. If I am coming to your home, I will be as diligent as possible as driving condition will vary. I carry a cell phone with me and will notify you as soon as possible to any delays. COMMUNICATION Communication between teacher and student and teacher and parent is so very important. Parents are encouraged to call concerning student’s progress, practice problems, assignments etc. Parents are always welcome at lessons!
